Troubleshooting the Transition to SSO for Existing Users

In very early 2026, due to security requirements instituted by CUNY’s Computer and Information Systems department (CIS), we shifted to a Single-Sign-On (SSO) process for logins to the CUNY Pressbooks Network. As you do with a number of other platforms at CUNY (CUNYFirst, Outlook, Brightspace, and so on) you now will use your CUNY Login ID (Firstname.Lastname##@login.cuny.edu) and password to sign in to the CUNY Pressbooks Network.

Ultimately, this change should not affect anything other than how you log in. In particular, if you are a student who has an account because you accessed a book via Brightspace, then this change will not affect you, and no further action is needed.

However, if you initially used your CUNY email address to create an account with the CUNY Pressbooks Network, then it is likely that the first time you use your CUNY Login ID to sign in, you will find that you no longer have access to your books. In that instance, please fill out the Contact Us form at the bottom of the home page of the CUNY Pressbooks Network. In the “Your message” section of the form, please tell us your CUNY Login ID (but not the password!), your Pressbooks username, and the email address associated with your Pressbooks account. We will then link your CUNY Login to your old account manually.

Additionally, if you are a faculty member from a non-CUNY institution who is collaborating with a CUNY colleague on a book, please fill out the Contact Us form at the bottom of the home page of the CUNY Pressbooks Network. In the “Your message” section of the form, please tell us your name and email so that we can share an alternative login procedure with you.

And, of course, please Contact Us if you have any further questions.
