Example Block Schedules

First year students do not pick each of their first semester classes individually. When they meet with their advisor, they are given various pre-selected block schedules to choose from, based on their intended major/area of interest. There are six (6) different types of blocks that a section of LEH 250 could be a part of:

  1. Arts & Humanities/Social Science
  2. Business
  3. Nursing
  4. Computer Science
  5. Natural Science
  6. ESL

You will be told what type of block your section of LEH 250 is in, and which other classes are in your block. This will give you some idea of what other classes your students are in.

In addition, the SEEK program and the ACE program have blocks that are only open to students in their programs. This means you could be teaching in a Business Block that is open to all first-year students, a Business Block that is only open to SEEK students, or a Business Block that is only open to ACE students. The only significant difference is that SEEK and ACE students work closely with their advisors throughout the semester, which can help you to find more support for a struggling student.

LC refers to the Learning Community of LEH 250 plus ENG 111, ENG 121, ESL 103, or ESL 104.

OAO = Onboarding Advisement Office, the office that advises incoming students who are not part of ACE, SEEK, Lehman Scholars, Macaulay Scholars, or the Adult Degree Program.
