Career Exploration

Note: if the students have earned their Lehman Know How badge they will have already started contact with the career exploration and development center by logging into Handshake. You can have them do more in Handshake by searching for jobs on campus or internship opportunities.

More self exploration

Students are asked to complete the Forum 2 Self-assessment.

  1. Go to Career Services Center (CSC) – Lehman College to select Focus 2
  2. Select ‘Create an Account’
  3. Type access code: lightning
  4. Complete your profile
  5. Complete the Self-Assessment (Work Interest, Values, Personality, Leisure, and Skills)
  6. After taking all the assessments select ‘Combine’ to retrieve report
  7. Select each of the assessment
  8. Click ‘Apply’ (the top career options based on your profile will be displayed)
  9. Select the career you are interested in learning about and complete the worksheet.

Note:

  1. Beyond this exercise please use this account to further develop your career planning and learn everything about the career(s) you are interested in based on your results.
  2. Make sure you schedule an appointment with your Career Specialist via Navigate for assistant with your career planning

The accounts should already be set up.   If the students have a problem, have them email their assigned career counselor through Navigate.  More information is available here: https://www.lehman.edu/career-services/index.php    

Once students login they should do the self-assessment. They should submit a copy of the results as part of their homework.   If you want to explore careers in more depth you are very welcome to work with the CEDC to schedule additional services, to ask the students to create a resume and have it reviewed, or to explore the other resources..
