Library skills

Many incoming students have very limited experiences with libraries.  Many Bronx and other public NYC high schools have limited or no library .  LEH 250 is an essential part of transitioning to using a college library.  The library serves many functions for students, not just providing access to articles and books, but also to study spaces and librarians who are there to help students learn to use the materials. Information literacy is broader than the Library, but the library is the key place where this is part of the curriculum.

The material in the template provides a foundational amount of  introductory material.  You can expand the content in  ways that you want and also you can link this material to the disciplinary content. The material includes both strategies for finding high quality materials and strategies for assessing information.

We use two comics created for the library to introduce these concepts, but also include some external sites.  A minimal assignment can be to read the comics and then answer the questions in the reflection assignment included in the template.
