6.8 Cryovolcanism
On Earth, volcanism involves the eruption of melted rock, but on some planetary bodies in the outer solar system, a process called cryovolcanism occurs in which liquid mixtures of volatile compounds (or “ices”) like water and methane erupt from the surface.
