Most everyone learns how to read as children. In high school, we read to summarize texts. Often, it seems unnecessary for just to read, since the teacher will summarize everything in class, so why bother to read at all. However, in college, the expectation is that you will read.

This Medium article “College Reading Secrets Your Professor Expects You to Know” by Eric Drown provides an understanding of and practices and strategies for reading in college. Active reading and annotation are the first steps in the writing process.
