What is SPARC?
- As part of New York State’s Enough is Enough (“EIE”) statute, all NYS colleges must provide ongoing education and training about sexual misconduct to their students.
- To be in full compliance with this law, CUNY implemented the Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course (SPARC)
- Specifically, SPARC was created to educate students about sexual misconduct, ways to prevent it, and the campus’ response to a complaint.
Who Should take the Training?
- Freshman and Transfer students: May be subjected to registration hold and other actions by Administration.
- Athletes: Will not be allowed to participate if you do not complete SPARC and email your certificate to your coach
- Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Officers: Will not be able to participate as an Officer of a specific club/organization if you do not complete the SPARC program and email your certificate as informed.
How is SPARC Structured?
- SPARC is structured in four parts and should take about 30 minutes to complete.
- Students must view ALL the slides to successfully complete each module.
- After each module you must complete question validation quiz before you can move on to the next module.
- Students should complete the SPARC program in one sitting.
- Please print and/or screenshot the Certificate of Completion for your records and keep in a secure place.

- The SPARC Online Training (SOT) module must be successfully completed before the hold is lifted.
- If a student has a hold and then successfully completes the module, please directly send a screenshot of the completion screen/certificate with the score visible to Kevin Adams -kadams@mec.cuny.edu
- Students must successfully complete the module with a passing score of 80% before the hold is lifted. No exceptions.
- If the score appears as “in progress,” “upcoming,” or below 80% the hold will not be lifted.
- If a student has a technical issue with the module, please ask them to directly email Kevin Adams – kadams@mec.cuny.edu
- All incoming students (first-time freshman and first-time transfers) are required to complete SPARC training as are student government members, student leaders, student-athletes, and members of other student groups designated by the University and/or College.
Please remember, the SPARC Online Training (SOT) is a “No Enrollment Indicator” which will prevent a student from making any changes to their enrollment without other assistance.
