In-Program Standards

Once admitted into the SEEK Program at Medgar Evers College, students MUST adhere to the following requirements:

1). Register as a full-time student each semester. Students must take a minimum of 12 billable credits each semester. Unless not feasible due to degree requirements, students are encouraged to initially pursue the requirements for an Associate’s degree. Upon obtaining the Associate’s degree, students are expected to follow the requirements to obtain the Baccalaureate degree. If due to degree requirements or academic probation status, a student cannot register for full-time status, he or she may request a one-time part-time waiver. Approval of the request is at the discretion of the Percy E. Sutton SEEK program director.

2). Maintain a grade point average of C or better. Failure to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better may result in dismissal from the SEEK program.

3). Regularly attend classes. Students who receive “WU” grades consistently, indicating non-attendance in classes, may be dismissed from the SEEK program.

4). File the appropriate financial aid forms, annually. Once a student is coded as SEEK, he or she will continue to receive benefits as long as he or she follows all the other guidelines. However, it is the responsibility of the student to file the appropriate financial aid forms every academic year. Failure to update financial aid forms will result in a delay in releasing funds or non-receipt of financial aid benefits.

5). Enroll in a group counseling class each semester. As a first year student, all SEEK students MUST enroll in SP/C 3 in the first semester, and SP/C 4 in the second semester. After the first year, students MUST enroll in an AGRO (Advanced Group) counseling class for a minimum of two additional semesters. Failure to comply with the program’s group counseling requirement will jeopardize SEEK status. Students are also required to meet individually with their assigned counselor at least two times each semester.

6). Sign-up for and attend tutoring for a minimum of two hours each semester. SEEK is designed to provide continuous assistance to students who were academically and economically disadvantaged before entering college. Therefore, the program is set up to ensure that all students in the program are provided with as much support as possible. To that end ALL SEEK students who do not have a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0 or better, and who have not earned 24 credits MUST receive tutoring for at least two hours per week per semester. Students who do not sign up for and attend tutoring may lose their SEEK status.

* Students must use their MEC e-mail account in order to receive communications from the City University of New York, Medgar Evers College, and the SEEK program.
