Plan Ahead

 Show up for class. Be there daily. When you’re not there, you’re missing something. You’re also sending your instructor a message that you don’t care. If you know you are going to miss class because of an appointment, sickness, or an emergency, contact your instructor as soon as possible and certainly before the next class meeting.
 Have work done on time. Not only may you face a grade penalty if you don’t, but you will also most certainly irritate some of your teachers if you are perpetually late with assignments. Some instructors may have a policy of not accepting late work. Ask if you are uncertain. If your work is late because of illness or an emergency, let your instructor know.
 Set up a daily schedule. And stick to it. Learning how to manage your time can make the difference between success and frustration. Get a portable appointment calendar from your campus bookstore and always keep it handy.
 As a full-time student, limit your work week to 20 hours. Most students begin a downhill slide after that. Need more money? Consult a financial aid counselor. If you must work, look for a job on campus. Students who work on campus tend to have a higher graduation rate than those who work off-campus.
