Objectives and Admission Requirements

Objectives

The Percy E. Sutton SEEK program was designed for students who require financial
and academic support to complete a college education. Students in the program receive up to ten
semesters of economic and academic support while meeting the requirements for a baccalaureate
degree. Each Special Programs/SEEK student receives a financial aid stipend for education
expenses. The major objectives of the Percy E. Sutton SEEK Program at Medgar Evers College are:                                                                                                                                    1). To provide a permanent and structured program of special assistance to selected students who
require and can utilize supportive services to overcome previous lack of access to educational and
economic resources so that they may obtain a quality college education, and to expand the career
and social options available to them.                                                                                       2). To provide, by means of special funding, a range of intensive supportive services to aid each Special Programs student to bridge, as successfully and expeditiously as possible, the gap between
basic skills instruction and the regular college curriculum. Support services provided are:                                                                                                                                                    a. Basic Skills instruction
b. Individual and group counseling
c. Tutorial services, and
d. Financial assistance                                                                                                                  3). To explore, develop, and demonstrate innovative techniques to enable students to achieve their academic goals.
