About Counseling

Students are required to meet with their SEEK counselor at least once a semester on an individual basis. Moreover, the SEEK faculty and staff believe that support of peers is essential in fostering a successful academic experience. To that end, students must take a group counseling class each semester. These classes are designed to provide an outlet for students to deal with issues that they encounter while pursuing higher education. Each class is based on a specific theme. Students register for these classes during the registration period. During the first year, students take SP/C 003 and SP/C 004. In order to complete the graduation requirement for Medgar Evers College, students must take at least two advanced group counseling (AGRO) classed. Failure to comply with this program condition may result in dismissal from the Percy E. Sutton SEEK program.
Students who are not required to enroll in a SEEK class, must see their counselor as follows based upon which school the degree sought is housed:
▪ Business: Pending
▪ Liberal Arts & Education; Transfers: Jewel C. James-Nesbitt
▪ Readmit Students & Academic Probation: Rebecca Cenatus
▪ Science, Health, & Technology: John C. Williams
