Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York recognizes the basic rights and responsibilities of the members of the college community and accepts its obligation to preserve and protect those rights and responsibilities. Further, the college provides for its members the opportunities and protections that best serve the nature of the education process.
The conduct of the members of the college community must ensure the basic rights of individuals as well as reflect the practical necessities of the community. Our conduct must exclude any act or behavior that interferes with the basic purpose, necessities, or processes of the college or with the rights of its members. Finally, our conduct, both on campus and in the larger community, must reconcile the principles of freedom and civic responsibility. The college family discourages the use of abusive language, loud, disorderly, or disruptive behavior, harassment of an individual or a group and physical abuse of any person. We encourage each member of the college to invest in the notion that we are responsible for creating an atmosphere of safety and concern for others and respect for the campus environment.
