The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is an entitlement grant program for New York State residents attending postsecondary institutions in the state. The program provides grant assistance to help eligible full-time students meet tuition charges. SEEK students are eligible for up to five years of assistance. To remain eligible for TAP, students MUST maintain at least a 2.0 or ‘C’ average and must complete their degree requirements within a specific time frame in order to continue to receive financial aid. Additionally, TAP will only fund courses that are specified for the student’s major of study on record as indicated by the Medgar Evers College’s Registrar office and posted on each student’s DegreeWorks.
Full-time SEEK students in an Associate’s degree program can receive up to 6 TAP payments. Full-time SEEK students in a Baccalaureate degree program can receive up to 10 TAP payments. The toll-free number for TAP is (888) 697-4372.
Probation and Appeals
Students whose GPA falls below the required 2.0 may lose their financial aid award(s). However, they may appeal, in writing, to the Director of Financial Aid to retain eligibility for receipt of TITLE IV Federal Student Assistance. Appeals will be evaluated based upon recommendations from the Committee on Academic Standards.
