For students who are unprepared for course selection, the registration process can be lengthy and frustrating. Registration is not a mystery and should not be considered as such. Students are responsible for taking the process into their hands, and making sure that the classes they register for are required for the degree that they are pursuing. Moreover, students should take advantage of Early Registration to optimize the possibility of getting a first pick of available classes.
CUNYFirst
Students may register using CUNYFirst (Schedule Builder) during early and regular registration periods. Students using CUNYfirst (Schedule Builder) for the first time must seek assistance in the S-205, C221, or from the registrar’s office (S-301).
Late Registration
In order to avoid delay and to reduce wait time during registration, students should take note of the following, which should be taken care of BEFORE (not during) registration:
1. Find out financial aid eligibility status.
2. Notify the Registrar’s Office of any change of name, address, and/or social security number, as soon as possible.
3. Check with the Registrar’s Office if you do not receive an announcement for Early Registration, which usually begins approximately 6 weeks before the end of the current semester.
4. Find out if there are any stops on your account. Your counselor should be able to provide that information for you and it is noted on your CUNYfirst account. Stops may be placed by the following offices: Health Services, Accounts Receivable, Bursar, Library, Athletics Department, Admissions Office, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs/Probation, Testing & Placement, and SEEK.
5. Meet with your SEEK course instructor or assigned counselor for pre-registration advisement. Prepare first choice as well as alternate courses that you will need.
6. Make sure that you are aware of the TAP and PELL progress guidelines, financial aid, academic, and SEEK guidelines.
If you have trouble registering online, provide the following when meeting with your counselor of SEEK course instructor:
A Registration Form signed by the counselor that you met with for advisement.
A completed registration time chart indicating your available times.
All forms that you present must be completed. Print your name, EMPLID, course numbers, and section numbers clearly.
It is also a good idea to have your completed advisement worksheet or DegreeWorks printout and a current transcript handy in case you need them for any reason.
