Step 9: Share your answer to your question with a presentation

The purpose of a deep dive is to understand a topic deeply through reading and synthesizing evidence and to then use that knowledge to answer a question, make a decision or recommendation, or as the basis of an action plan. In this class, your deep dive ends with you showcasing your question and answer and your work. You become the group’s specialist on the topic, with knowledge that others do not have but may well need.

You will explain your question and deep dive with a presentation geared towards college students and faculty who want to know more about the topic.

Your presentation should be you, talking to your audience (college students and faculty) in a conversational tone. You’ll want to make sure you:

  • Talk to your audience (not read from the slides)
  • Use a slideshow that has main points to keep yourself and your audience on track
  • Present your question and 3 main ideas related to the questions
  • The answer to your question

Steps

  1. Create your presentation.  Commonly used applications for this are Google Slides, Apple Keynote, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  2. Once you have it ready, practice presenting it a few times without recording. Use this as a chance to revise! Also, use the speaker notes feature to guide you through what to say on each slide.
  3. When you have the presentation ready, record it with your narration using one of the options below (or others you know about).

Here are some resources on how to create a narrated presentation.

Powerpoint: This requires you to work on your own computer (not the web version of Microsoft 365) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/record-a-presentation-2570dff5-f81c-40bc-b404-e04e95ffab33

Keynote: https://support.apple.com/guide/keynote/record-audio-tan8a5df9cc5/mac

Google Slides: Google slides are more complicated to record because there is not a built in method.  However, various ways to do this are explained on the web.

The alternatives below will work for any type of presentation.

**Video files are too big for Blackboard or most email and online sites. Instead, submit the link to your file on google drive, Microsoft One Drive, YouTube, or any other storage site you use.
