the general reason or intention of the speech, such as to inform, persuade, or entertain

lingua franca

references to the sources of information given verbally during a speech

oration

formal public speaking

Persuasion

the act of influencing other people either to believe something or to do something, or both

plagiarism

the use of another person’s creation or ideas without crediting that person

purpose statement

a statement that identifies the goal for the audience of a speech

recapitulation

a summary or restatement of information and ideas

rhetoric

the art of speaking and writing effectively; the study of this art

signal

a hint that the conclusion of a speech is coming soon

specific purpose

the reason or intention that is specific to a particular speech

strong statement

a statement that leaves a lasting impression on the audience

summary

a brief restatement of the main ideas

transitional language

words and phrases that are used to show transitions between ideas, often by signaling a relationship between the ideas
