Significant Learning Outcomes
- Develop and expand an understanding of the cultures and customs of different Lusophone countries.
- Express verbal ideas with the vocabulary covered in more complex sentences and demonstrate proficiency of the past, present, and future tenses and the most common subjunctive forms.
- Distinguish and pronounce all sounds of Portuguese with sufficient accuracy to be understood by a native speaker of the language; express ideas with the vocabulary covered in simple sentences in the past and present tenses and the most common subjunctive forms.
- Develop reading strategies, including intelligent guessing at new vocabulary items based on context; understand simple nonliterary Portuguese prose on nontechnical, high frequency topics; demonstrate comprehension by answering questions on reading passages.
- Create simple written texts in Portuguese on topics covered in class with sufficient clarity to be understood without difficulty by a native speaker. The student will prepare at home a paragraph in Portuguese without major errors.
