Learning Objectives

CONTENT: Using the present tense to talk about oneself and others in familiar, academic and professional contexts.

VOCABULARY: Greetings, introductions, salutations, numbers, time, dates and months, daily routine, colors, descriptions, classes and objects in the classroom, family, food and shopping.

GRAMMAR: Personal pronouns, the present tense conjugations of Ser, Estar, Ter, Ir, Fazer, Querer, Gostar de. The regular and irregular conjugations of -ar, -er, and -ir verbs, the present progressive. The demonstrative, interrogative and possessive pronouns. Introducing the present subjunctive.

Chapter 2 – Somos todos estudantes.

Chapter 3 – Vamos fazer compras?

(Let’s go shopping?)

SECOND SEMESTER

Minha vida antes e agora

(My life then and now)

Learning Objectives

CONTENT: Talking about the present and the past in relation to gastronomy, cultures, traditions, weather, clothing and fashion, and sports.

VOCABULARY: Food, sports, clothing, vacations, holidays and celebrations, important dates and traditions in the Lusophone world.

GRAMMAR: The present, preterit and imperfect tenses of Ser, Estar, Ter, Ir, Fazer, Querer, Saber and regular and irregular -ar, -er, and -ir verbs. Comparatives and Superlatives. The past progressive and adverbs. Introducing the past subjunctive.

Chapter 5 – O que está acontecendo hoje?

(What is happening today?)

Chapter 6 – O que aconteceu ontem?

(What happened yesterday?)

Chapter 7 – Quando eu era criança… Sabia que? 

(Did you know that? When I was a child…)

Chapter 8 – A vida ontem e hoje.

(Life today and yesterday)

THIRD SEMESTER

Lembrar o passado, viver o presente e planejar o futuro

(Remembering the past, living the present and planning the future)

Learning Objectives

CONTENT: Talking about the past and the future in relation to health and the human body, science and technology, the city and the countryside, the environment, furniture and architecture.

VOCABULARY: Body parts, house and furtiniture, exploring urban environments and nature, comparing science and technology.

GRAMMAR: The simple future and the conditional, passive voice and participles. Personal and impersonal “se.” Introducing the future subjunctive.

Chapter 9 – Onde poderemos ir para falar português?

(Where will we go to speak Portuguese?)

Chapter 10 – O que nós faríamos se…?

(What would we do if…?)

Chapter 11 – Quando eu for… / Se eu for.

(Whenever I am…, whenever I go…./ If I am.., If I go…)

Chapter 12 – Se nós pudéssemos mudar.

(If we could change…)
