How to Use This Book

How to use this page

Students often don’t know how to read or use textbooks. For example, they might be inclined to focus on the main text and ignore features like this shaded textbox, which might provide useful guidance for understanding the chapter. Include a “How to Use This Book” section in the front matter to help students understand the purposes of and use the helpful features you have included in your book.

  1. Update the Welcome! section, replacing the text below the heading (which welcomes readers to this book) with a brief introduction welcoming readers to your book.
  2. Update the Keep an Eye Out for These Features section, replacing the features represented below the heading (which provide examples of features of this book) with examples of the features included in your book.
  3. Delete this text box and the attribution text box at the bottom of the page.

Welcome!

Whether you’re looking for ideas on how to organize your Pressbook, learning how to fill out the front and back matter of your Pressbook, or importing this book to get a headstart on creating content, we hope you find this template helpful.

Keep an Eye Out for These Features

Shaded text boxes provide information on what information belongs in each section and instructions on how to adapt that particular section for your own Pressbook.

[Square brackets enclose text that should be replaced with the content suggested.]
