Foundational Readings

Introduction

John Jay’s new Justice Core is a set of level-300 courses that require students to not only learn about the focal Supreme Court cases featured in each course but also to situate these cases in the socio-historical context in which they arose, examine the various legal, social, economic, and environmental issues involved in these cases, and discuss the effects these cases have had on our society.

The HUM 300 courses assume a certain level of familiarity with American history surrounding certain important events and movements, an understanding of how the US judicial system functions, some experience reading legal documents, and a basic vocabulary that incorporates terms commonly used in legal writing and humanities.

This part of the eReader was carefully curated to provide students with OER resources aimed at helping them address any gaps in knowledge fundamental to succeeding in the HUM 300 courses.
